Got the Bronx and it was delicious! I'm a no cheese or mayo kind of person, so I've experienced a fair share of bland and dry sandwiches but I was very impressed by the flavor of my sub. Meat and bread was great, lots of veggies and reasonably priced. Bonus, great music selection! Wish you could wire it outside for the patio seating!

I stop here every time I go though Hood River! This sandwich shop has simply the BEST bread. It is amazing, no seriously the rest of the sub doesn't even mater, it's all about the bread!

Stopped by this little small town deli in Hood River this weekend while on our way to a hike in the Mt Hood area, Got the 4" manhattan sub, was very fresh and nice, you can tell its freshly baked bread. A great place to grab a quick snack if you're in the area.

I've tried every sub at New York City Sub Shop and they are all AMAZING. The staff is pretty cool as well. They are always polite, and super happy to see their customers. I'm a huge fan of the place! :-D (4 stars because I wish it was open later)

Made to order, great bread, cooked in front of you and really nice staff that were very helpful. Wrapped up my sandwich for a great lunch down by the river.

Good food, and not badly priced. They don't have any gluten free breads, but were willing to put the sandwich contents in a dish for our son with salad. I expect I'll be back.

I can now say I've been to all three New York City Sub Shop locations! I used to live in Jackson, Wyo., and the sub shop was a staple to my diet. Passing through Hood River from Portland, I was pleasantly surprised there was a location here. The cheese steak was just as awesome as I remembered in Jackson. Fresh baked bread, too. Definitely a place to hit up if you're passing through!

I was disappointed with this sandwich shop. After a night camping and hiking and a few hundred miles on my motorcycle, a hungry friend and I stopped in Hood River craving a good sub/hoagie both originating from the east coasts were subs reign supreme. The sandwich had a decent taste albeit a bit bland, I had a cheesesteak. I expected it to be larger and stuffed with more meet. It was mostly roll, and I thought overpriced for what it was. Plus when I ordered it the way I always like my steak sammys, ketchup mayo and fried onion, they said they had no ketchup! For a cheesesteak really? The mayo was forgotten anyway. Point being, I will not be back, just all around disappointing with such a high yelp rating. My friend was equally unimpressed and he had a chicken marinara sub.

Ok. Genius meets grill. They make their own delicious bread daily. Check. They grill the meat and cheese and your other toppings on a massive flat grill that's scraped away after too much residue's built up.. Check. They slip your hot main ingredients into the bread that's accompanied with some other toppings of your choice. Then it is wrapped up, and handed off to you by name. You can get some fresh chocolate chip cookies or soda or other drinks as well. The people are awesome too!! I got the BRONX with added ham and bacon. I bite into it and I'm reminded why I come back every time. The bread is soft, the dressing that I chose to add makes it kind of moist, the bacon is smoky and crispy, the turkey, ham, and cheese are hot and gooey with intermingled caramelized onions, no... nothing else compares Alright. Then you sit back and see the view of the Gorge. There's a perfect substantial chocolate chip cookie waiting. And a bubbling drink to wash down whatever. Try it without bacon first to witness the original taste. Or just go straight for the bacon. Any way you go, enjoy!! This just leaves me with "Ah. What's not to love about this NYC Sub Shop"

Really great, east coast-style subs. A little outside the town center, but worth the trip. Got a turkey sub, everything on it - normally I'm not into banana peppers but this place does it right.

Awesome sub sandwiches, I would give this a 5 star rating but feel their prices are a tad high. Would definetly return here if craving a good and very filling, sub.

Friendly and prompt staff is what I find EVERY time I go to nyc subs. They take my order and are always open to customizing it a little for me if I prefer something left off. I always get my food in less than 5 minutes and have never been disappointed. They make their bread fresh and their meats are moist and dont contain any grisly parts. Definitely a great lunch spot! Tip: be sure and try the in house made cookies... absolutely delicious!

Good food and fast service! If you are looking for somewhere quick to grab lunch than this is a good option. They allow you to call in ahead so it is ready as soon as you pick it up.

Every young grain dreams of growing up to be made into the bread they use for their sandwiches... This place has been one of my favorites since I moved here 13 years ago... I usually get the Midtown (chicken and marinara) but also love the Bronx... and the Cheesesteak... In the winter, they have great soups. Worth the prices... I think it's about $13 for a HUGE sandwich...

Worst food poisoning of my life!! Just writing this makes me sick. Finally starting to feel myself today (Tuesday) after being sick since Sunday evening. Projectile vomit multiple times. Diarrhea. Diarrhea. Ugh. Never again. Manhattan sub sure took me on a ride to hell.

What happened? Stopped by a few times lately, and the bread & peppers still rock, but the amount of meat on the subs has diminished. Three meatballs on a large Staten Island, a tablespoon of tuna on a half Battery, and pastrami only on half of a Park Ave... Don't know if it's just a couple of flukes or a sad casualty of a hurting economy, but the flaky bread and peppers can't do it on their own...

Great subs, & sense of community. Sitting around before you order or waiting to pick up, you meet some great folks, local or visiting windsurfers. One guy offered to let me housesit and watch his horses! Bread was fresh-baked and chewy-crusty. Grilled onions and Omelet was way good, as was my dad's pastrami and Mom's Bronx. One thing, though, is a half sandwich is like 12 inches long. I should have gone with the quarter sandwich( I'm a 5'3 girl), and I can't imagine who can manage a whole sandwich!

good quality sand with onions, cheese and meat hot off the flat top! I appreciate how they keep it simple 6 - 10 choices not a lot of frills just a straight forward meal. They have a nice picnic table if the weather is nice you can take in a nice view of the Gorge.

Wonderful Subs, but very expensive for what is offered. 10+ bucks for a whole sub is way to much but it fits what Hood River is about. Expensive things for tourists. This is my hometown and I've known of this place forever and hate the price, but really like the subs.

Can't find sandwiches like these at a franchise restaurant. Warm bread, fresh meat, cheese and extras. Well worth the hot parking lot seating.

Worth every shred of its 4.5 star average, and with any luck, my 5 will put it over the top. For a few years now a co-worker has been going on, and on, and on and onandonandonononandon about New York subs, and I have had ENOUGH, I tell you. I had an opportunity to visit the Bend store earlier this year, and while I neglected to write a review for the joint (probably still should) I was thoroughly impressed. The Hood River store (and Bend version, for that matter) is a small, informal shop. Order at the counter, they scribble your sandwich on a bag and it goes up on the line. Grab your chips, drink, dessert, whatever and wait for the magic to emerge. The real key to NYC subs is the grilled meat. All of their deli meats go on the flat top prior to introduction to the rest of the sandwich. Well, one caveat, I suppose: I'm assuming all of the deli meats get grilled; I've never not had a grilled meat sandwich. BACK ON TRACK HERE: ohhhh the sandwich. I've had both the Bronx (turkey and provolone) and the Wall Street (roast beef and provolone). Simply incredible. The bread is alllllmost banh mi style (bit of a flaky crust with a chewy interior) but they grill it just enough to add a nice crunch which perfectly compliments everything. Speaking of components complimenting one another, that's where NYC subs shine, in my opinion. There is no one component of the sandwich that is clearly better than the rest. You could argue a case for the meat being the star, but it just ain't so, from my experience. Everything from the spread to the crisp peppers to the cheese contributes to a sandwich medley unlike I've seen. Except for the onions. I'm not onion guy. I knew somebody once that loved onions but she's no longer a friend. Thank God. I agree with Joey Y. in that we need at LEAST one if not multiple outlets of this store in the Portland area. I truly think there's a market here that doesn't currently exist for a hot, quality sub sandwich. MAKE IT SO!

If I based my review on just today I'd give 1 star but I've been coming to NY sub for years and always love it and told anyone i met that this was the place to go but for the last several times its been disappointing and today was the worst. Got the Brooklyn and the cheese was in a huge half melted half cold lump. The veggies were cold cold cold and got a big blast of sauce at first but the rest was dry. New management? Quality control needs to check in.

Why?! Why?! Why is there no NY City Sub in Portland?! ARGGGGG... Stopped by here on our way to Wild Canyon Games in Antelope. I wished I stayed here longer and devoured more of their sandwiches. Their service was super fast and organized. Even though there were 14 of us, the server didn't fret and took our orders and made them fresh. The Bronx = deliciousness.

After a day on the water find this hidden gem. It is off the beaten track but your searching will be worth the reward. The Bronx is awesome. Turkey/Provolone cheese melt on white bread with banana peppers, onions, lettuce and dressing. They also sponsor The Gorge is My Gym ! When the weather is nice you can sit in the sun on a couple of picnic tables and enjoy the Gorge.

I assume because of their name, they are hoping for a little New York in Hood River? So let me first start by saying I have never been to New York which means I can't compare this to a sandwich you may find in the NYC. But if these aren't New York style sandwiches, then they are Hood River style and I love them! I used to get the Broadway (ham) but haven't been eating meat for a while, so just going with the cheese, and to be honest I forget the name. Needless to say, the combo of their bread, banana peppers, onions, tomatoes, italian dressing, onions all melted together with provolone cheese makes me happy. It's a little pricey, but what isn't these days? Taco Bell? No Thanks! The few extra dollars is worth it!! It is off the beaten path, but I will admit, it's nice not having to beat off the tourists that come to Hood River. Call me selfish.

Great little hide away thanks to yelp we found it. Food was good and the service too, Friday night before they closed no one else around we had a nice picnic table with a view.

We went here off of another search sight. It is a good shop with simple subs and gigantic portions. The whole sub is 11 bucks but it is practically 2 footlong subs. I got a whole not realizing this. It was a tasty sammich a little greasy but sometimes thats what makes a great sammich

The Turkey Provolone sub, the Wall Street sub and the Vegetable Gorgonzola soup. Fresh bread... mmmmmmm.

Mild update-I see a lot of people mentioning the need for one in the Portland area, and I could NOT AGREE MORE. There used to be one downtown years ago-near 7th, If I recall. I never really knew why it closed down-always busy when I went there, but maybe the rent/lease was expensive. Either way, I'd frequent it if you brought another to the Portland (Oregon City, Canby, etc... ) area. :) LOVE My NYC subs!

Massive Meatball Sammiches!!!!!! The most excellent meatball sub! Steak and cheese is pretty good but I do recommend getting extra meat. The manhattan has Genoa salami, ham and provolone cheese served warm = good stuff. A full sandwich, the largest size, is satisfyingly humongous. It can probably feed a family of four. I really like their fresh baked bread. I usually end up getting 2 different subs. Like a Meatball and A Manhattan. (Hey Look, I don't get out here as often as I should so I gotta make the best of it, right?) This is a great place to replenish on all those burnt calories from skiing, snow boarding, kite boarding, hiking, or biking in the gorge. Or load up before you hit a brewery. Or stop for a extremely filling sandwich on a long trek Out east on I-84. A Great Highway Stop. There are other locations as well. I wish there was one closer to PDX. But Bend and Hood River are fine with me, it gives me another great excuse to get away from the city. Sitting on the picnic tables outside in great weather..... soaking up the view..... devouring a tasty Sandwich.... One can see why this is a Fav spot of mine in Hood River. The Some of the Sandwiches travel pretty well too, for all you Campers, Road trippers, or drunk 3 am snack. Small Issues: They don't cut their subs in Half ( so just ask) Also, no salt and pepper packets (So just ask they have some behind the counter, but i usually have some in the truck) Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Stopped here on way to Portland because of the positive reviews and it did not disappoint! Whole family loved it, even my super picky child who got a plain cheese sub.

Pretty much the best sub shop in the Gorge, second to none. Forget your diet if you eat here...but die happy. The Philly Cheese steak subs are pretty impressive.

A "half" sandwich is 8 inches long for $6. I always get the Bronx (turkey and provolone) but my dad is a huge fan of the cheesesteak and the meatball sandwiches. You have to get the grilled onions - they MAKE the sandwich. "Whole" (16-inch) and "quarter" (4-inch) sizes are also available. Clean little bathrooms are around the right side of the shop. Really nice people work here too. I wish we had one near Corvallis.
